Frequently asked questions

Are the puzzles really free and unlimited?

Yes. There is no account, no daily cap and no paywall. Pick a difficulty, pick a theme if you like, and solve as many puzzles as you want, whenever you want.

How do the difficulty levels work?

Every puzzle carries a rating from real play, from about 400 up to 3000. Beginner serves puzzles rated 400 to 1000, Intermediate 1000 to 1400, Advanced 1400 to 1800, and Expert 1800 and up. Any rating draws from the whole pool.

What are puzzle themes?

Themes are the tactical idea hiding in the position: forks, pins, skewers, back-rank mates and dozens more. Filtering by one theme is the fastest way to drill a pattern until you spot it in your own games.

Where do the puzzles come from?

Every position comes from a real game, drawn from the open Lichess puzzle database. Ratings and popularity are set by millions of community attempts, so the difficulty labels mean something.

What happens when I get one wrong?

The move flashes red, the board rewinds, and you simply try again. The only thing at stake is your streak, which counts puzzles solved cleanly in a row: no wrong tries, no hints, no skips. If you are stuck, two hints and a full solution replay are a click away.

How is this different from the Daily Challenge?

The Daily Challenge is one shared gauntlet per day with three lives and a clock. This page is open practice: you choose the level and the theme, mistakes are free, and there is no limit on how many you play.
